In the seventeen hundreds, ships crossing oceans could not find their east-west position. They knew latitude from the Sun. But they could not know longitude — because they had no way to keep the time of their home port aboard a rolling wooden ship.
John Harrison was a British clockmaker who spent forty years building a clock so precise, so robust, so quietly stubborn that it could carry London's time across the ocean on its own. No signal. No reference to the sky. No dependency on land.
Ships that carried a Harrison chronometer became sovereign in time. They no longer needed anyone to tell them the hour.

For a few hours, the ground under modern digital life was visible for what it is.

OCEST does not extrapolate. It does not guess. It does not invent a plausible-looking answer to keep the flow going. It raises a specific error — a named refusal — and stops.
The error has a name: BeyondEmbeddedDataError.
This is discipline. Most timekeeping software silently extrapolates when pushed past its known data. It stretches its models forward and hopes no one notices. OCEST does the opposite. When the sky can no longer be verified from what OCEST embeds, OCEST stays silent.
